Wellington Harbour is often cited as one of the most spectacular in the world and will host the State Capital Classic on Sunday 25 January 2015.

Choose from four distances depending upon your confidence and ability and join in with the growing number of recreational swimmers who have made this New Zealand’s most popular ocean swim series.

Wellingtonians have never been afraid of taking a dip and last season this event even attracted the local Mayor and a large number of her council staff.

The State Capital Classic is also popular with support crews who can grab a decent coffee and enjoy some incredible vantage points along the Oriental Beach which hug the event course.

As with all of the events in our series, New Zealand’s volunteer Surf Life Savers will be on duty.

Contingency Courses

Decisions for all swims will be made by the Race Director in conjunction with Surf Life Saving NZ

‘I’m Going Long’ 3.3km Swim

In the event of weather that prevents the State Capital Classic ‘I’m Going Long’ swim going ahead safety, the swim will be shortened to a 2km contingency course starting and finishing at the same start location but will not go all the way out to Pt Jerningham Lighthouse. This course suits days when the Capital is hit by a blustery north-westerly wind. If this is the case all competitors will be advised prior by email, text message, on the State NZ Ocean Swim Series Facebook page and website. The briefing will take part at the same Frank Kitts Park location.

‘Step it Up’ 1km Swim, ‘Give It A Go’ 300m Swim and State OceanKids

In the event of weather that prevents the swimmers from being able to complete the swim courses safely, the swims maybe altered from the advertised courses to provide the safest and most enjoyable swimming conditions.
