The ‘Christchurch Crown’ is a brand spanking new course set in Corsair Bay that replaces the former ‘La Grande Swim’ in Akaroa.

Set right on Christchurch’s doorstep in Lyttelton Harbour, the course has been designed to challenge and intrigue with its layout in the ‘I’m Going Long’ swim weaving swimmers in and out of some of Christchurch’s most picturesque bays.

If you are looking for a challenge to train for and conquer then look no further – the Christchurch Crown is the perfect opportunity to put yourself outside your comfort zone in a super safe and encouraging environment. Swimmers will receive the royal treatment from Surf Life Saving New Zealand whilst underway, with guards on boards and in IRBs ensuring the confidence and safety of every swimmer for every stroke of their challenge.

Be part of history and join us on this exciting new adventure to conquer ‘The Crown’!

The New Zealand Ocean Swim Series has been a catalyst for positive change to thousands of Kiwis by providing them the motivation to get active and healthy as they train for their challenge. Now it’s your turn! Enter, train, feel good and SMASH IT!

All participants will receive a FREE Swim Program and silicon swim cap.

Your confirmation email was sent to the email address you provided on your entry form. Please check your junkmail/spam folder. For any queries, please contact us at info@oceanswim.co.nz.

What time does my swim start and from where?

Please refer to the “Event Times” box on the right hand side of this webpage. Or for more information click on the “Timetable” tab above. We also send regular email newsletters, so be sure that you have subscribed to this.

Can I change my estimated swim time?

Yes, you can change this by emailing us at least 10 days before the event.

What do I get in my swim pack?

• A Timing Chip and Strap*
• A silicon swim cap that you must wear for the event
• A numbered gear bag

*Please fasten the timing chip securely to your ankle with the supplied strap. The chip is on loan to you and must be returned after the event. A replacement chip is $30.00

How do I wear the timing chip?

Thread the thin part of the strap through the timing chip and fasten the Velcro strap securely around your ankle. We recommend you put your wetsuit over the chip to keep it secure. If you lose it, you will be liable for a replacement cost of $30. Once you have completed the event your chip is collected at the finish line. If you have a problem fastening your timing chip just ask one of the event officials on event day, they will be able to assist you.

Are there entry limits for the events?

Yes. For safety reasons, there is a maximum number of competitors allowed at each event. Enter early to avoid disappointment.

Can I enter on the day?

Yes, providing entries haven’t sold out online prior. We recommend you enter online to avoid disappointment.

How can I see the results?

Results will be published on the event website on the evening of each event. All swimmers that took part in a timed event will be able to download a certificate from the results page.

What is a ‘wave start’?

A ‘wave start’ requires smaller groups to start at different times to reduce congestion and will be based on the estimated times.

I still have my timing chip – what do I do?

If you have taken it home by mistake, please post it back to us at the following address:

Quantum Events Ltd
PO Box 605
Orewa
Auckland 0946

Note that if you have registered with a ‘Series Pass’ and are taking part in 3 or more events this season, you can keep your timing chip to use at all of your events over the Summer. Please return your timing chip to us following the final event that you are taking part in.

If it’s cold, can I swim with booties/skull cap/gloves?

It has been approved the use of the following:
• wetsuit booties
• skull caps  (your event swim cap must be worn over the skull cap and must remain visible for the duration of the race)
• wetsuit gloves (must NOT be webbed)

What happens in bad weather?

A decision to run with the contingency plan for the ocean swims will be made in the event of bad weather or circumstances beyond the control of the event management. The Race Director in conjunction with Surf Life Saving New Zealand will make this decision on race morning in the interest of your safety. Updates will be given to you on race morning.

For contingency decisions made the day prior – please check our website home page & event page as well as your own email inbox for the latest information.

What happens if I have difficulties in the water?

Simple! Stop! Raise your arm high into the air to identify yourself to a lifeguard. If this is not possible, simply roll on to your back to float in a relaxed position.

If you are near an athlete experiencing difficulties, please make sure they are alright, assist if necessary, and alert a lifeguard.

I can no longer make it, can I get a refund?

Refunds are not available, but we can transfer your entry across to another swim in the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series at the cost of $15. Please contact us at info@oceanswim.co.nz to arrange this transfer.

Should you decide not to swim, you are still entitled to collect your event swim pack, please advise crew of your decision so that you are not issued with a timing chip.

I don’t feel ready for my event, could I transfer to another race?

Yes you can. It comes at a cost of $15 to a transfer your entry to a different event or you can choose to transfer to a smaller length swim, in the same event, for no extra charge. Please contact us at info@oceanswim.co.nz to transfer your event registration.
