Don’t be – we have an enormous and talented support team on the water who are right there with you for your every stroke from Surf Life Saving NZ to the Harbour Master, Coastguard, patrol vessels and the NZ Police, our safety planning will provide you piece of mind and confidence whilst in the water.

Key Event Information
Your swim pack will contain;
• A Timing Chip and Strap*
• A silicon swim cap that you must wear for the event

• Ferry Ticket (if you have purchased one with your entry)
*Please fasten the timing chip securely to your ankle with the supplied strap. The chip is on loan to you and must be returned after the event. A replacement chip is $30.00.
Getting Your Swim Pack
When registering for the event online you can choose to either pay a courier fee to have your swim pack delivered to you in the week leading into the event, or to collect your swim pack from the Event Registration at Victory Convention Centre (Auckland CBD) 4-8pm on Friday 11th December.
Ferry to the Swim Start
If you need transport to the start area at Quinton Park from the Central City there will be ferries in the morning of the event. These ferries depart from the Downtown Ferry Terminal at the times listed below. If you wish to travel across on one of these ferries, please purchase a ferry ticket with your online registration or by contacting us at email@example.com.
Ferry 1 – departs Downtown Ferry Terminal at 5.45am sharp
Ferry 2 – departs Downtown Ferry Terminal at 6.30am sharp
Bag Transfer Service
Ford will be ‘Going Further’ this season by providing a free gear bag transfer service for all swimmers. Only the plastic drawstring bags provided may be used, packed with essentials. Bags will need to be placed into the appropriate bag cages at the start area in Quinton Park, Bayswater. Your bag will be transported to the finish area at Karanga Plaza and will be available for collection after your swim from the Ford Bag Pick Up Area.
Cut off time
All swimmers must make an 1100m buoy in 42 minutes from their wave start. The total cut off time is 1 hour 50 minutes from your wave start.

Upon finishing you will receive a heap of sponsor goodies to enjoy including Tasti bars, Good Health nutritional products, Banana Boat sunscreen and more.

A decision will be made by the Race Director in conjunction with Surf Life Saving NZ
In the event of weather that prevents the swim from being able to cross the Harbour safely the swim will move to a smaller 1.5km course starting at the Maritime Museum next to Princes Wharf. The briefing will take place at the finish line on Karanga Plaza. If this decision is made you will be informed first thing on the event morning by email / text and on our website & Facebook page.
What is the minimum age for each swim length?
• 2.9km ‘I’m Going Long’ – the minimum age is 14 years old
Swimmers under these minimum ages wishing to enter an event, must have consent from a legal guardian to enter, and must seek pre-approval from the Race Director by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org

How do I know I am entered?
You will receive an event confirmation email, confirming your registration.
I haven’t received my confirmation email, can you send it again?
Your confirmation email was sent to the email address you provided on your entry form. Please check your junk mail/spam folder. For any queries, please contact us at email@example.com.
What time does my swim start and from where?
Please refer to the “Event Times” box on the right hand side of this webpage. Or for more information click on the “Timetable” tab above. We also send regular email newsletters, so be sure that you have subscribed to this.
Can I change my estimated swim time?
Yes, you can change this by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org at least 10 days before the event.
When will I get my ferry ticket?
If you have pre-booked your ferry ticket with your online event registration, your ticket will be included in your swim pack.
How do I wear the timing chip?
Thread the thin part of the strap through the timing chip and fasten the Velcro strap securely around your ankle. We recommend you put your wetsuit over the chip to keep it secure. If you lose it, you will be liable for a replacement cost of $30. Once you have completed the event your chip is collected at the finish line. If you have a problem fastening your timing chip just ask one of the event officials on event day, they will be able to assist you.
Are there entry limits for the events?
Yes. For safety reasons, there is a maximum number of competitors allowed at each event. Enter early to avoid disappointment.
Can I enter on the day?
Yes, providing entries haven’t sold out online prior. We recommend you enter early online to avoid disappointment.

How can I see the results?
Results will be published on the event website on the evening of each event. All swimmers that took part in a timed event will be able to download a certificate from the results page.
What is a ‘wave start’?
A ‘wave start’ requires smaller groups to start at different times to reduce congestion and will be based on the estimated times.
I still have my timing chip – what do I do?

Note that if you have registered with a ‘Series Pass’ and are taking part in 3 or more events this season, you can keep your timing chip to use at all of your events over the Summer. Please return your timing chip to us following the final event that you are taking part in.
If it’s cold, can I swim with booties/skull cap/gloves?
It has been approved the use of the following:
• wetsuit booties
• skull caps (your event swim cap must be worn over the skull cap and must remain visible for the duration of the race)
• wetsuit gloves (must NOT be webbed)
What happens in bad weather?
A decision to run with the contingency plan for the ocean swims will be made in the event of bad weather or circumstances beyond the control of the event management. The Race Director in conjunction with Surf Life Saving New Zealand will make this decision on race morning in the interest of your safety. Updates will be given to you on race morning. For contingency decisions made the day prior – please check our website home page & event page as well as your own email inbox for the latest information.
What happens if I have difficulties in the water?
Simple! Stop! Raise your arm high into the air to identify yourself to a lifeguard. If this is not possible, simply roll on to your back to float in a relaxed position. If you are near an athlete experiencing difficulties, please make sure they are alright, assist if necessary, and alert a lifeguard.
I can no longer make it, can I get a refund?
Refunds are not available, but we can transfer your entry across to another swim in the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series at the cost of $15. Please contact us at email@example.com to arrange this transfer.
Should you decide not to swim, you are still entitled to collect your event swim pack, please advise crew of your decision so that you are not issued with a timing chip.
I don’t feel ready for my event, could I transfer to another race?
Yes you can. It comes at a cost of $15.00 to a transfer your entry to a different event or you can choose to transfer to a smaller length swim, in the same event, for no extra charge. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to transfer your event registration.
