Last season Sir John Kirwan ticked this swim off his bucket list, this year it could be you! There is only one day in the year when maritime traffic must yield to swimmers in Auckland’s Harbour and this is it! Join the growing number of recreational and elite swimmers keen to complete this iconic crossing from Bayswater on the North Shore to the Viaduct’s Karanga Plaza. New Zealanders and a growing number of international visitors have been enjoying the opportunity to swim across Auckland Harbour in this event since 2004. As registrations often exceed capacity we urge any interested swimmers to register early. As with all of the swims in our series, trained volunteers from Surf Life Saving New Zealand will be keeping a watchful eye on swimmers. This event is not for the faint hearted – we urge you only to enter if you are confident and have trained for the 2.9km distance. We do offer a variety of start waves to ensure that swimmers are grouped according to their ability and expected finish times to ensure that everyone enjoys this incredible swim. If you are not feeling ready to tackle this swim, please check out our other events which all offer a variety of shorter distances to help you gain confidence. A competitor transfer ferry is on offer from Downtown Auckland to Bayswater for the 7.00am race start. This makes it easier for your friends and family to grab a good vantage point at the Viaduct finish line and be there to cheer you home!
