The stunning surf beach location and easy drive from Auckland makes this a popular addition to our Series and a great excuse for a weekend away with family and friends.

Choose from four swim distances to match your skill level.

For those ready to take on the ultimate challenge, the ‘I’m Going Long’ course includes a circuit around Leisure (Moturiki) and Rabbit (Motuatau) Islands.

Swimmers will again be supported by the very experienced Mount and Papamoa Surf Life Saving Clubs, who know the beaches and ocean like the back of their hand – thanks guys!

Contingency Courses

Decisions for all swims will be made by the Race Director in conjunction with Surf Life Saving NZ

‘I’m Going Long’ 2.6km Swim

In the event of weather or surf preventing the ‘I’m Going Long’ swim going ahead safely, the swim will be moved to a smaller course at Main beach or relocated to Pilot Bay. Pilot Bay is a short 5 minute walk from Main Beach. If this is the case all swimmers will be advised prior by email, text message, on the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series Facebook page and website.

‘Step it Up’ 1km Swim, ‘Give It A Go’ 300m Swim and State OceanKids

In the event of weather that prevents the swimmers from being able to complete the swim courses safely, the swims maybe altered from the advertised courses to provide the safest and most enjoyable swimming conditions.

What is the minimum age for each swim length?

• OceanKids – for children aged between 6 – 10 years old

• ‘Give It A Go’ 300m – minimum age is 10 years old

• ‘Step It Up’ 1000m – minimum age is 12 years old

• 2.6km ‘I’m Going Long’ – minimum age is 14 years old

For swimmers under these minimum ages that have consent from a legal guardian to enter, you must seek pre-approval from the Race Director by contacting us proving their ability to swim in this race.

Entries are accepted online, click here.

How do I know I am entered?

You will receive an event confirmation email, confirming your registration.

I haven’t received my confirmation email, can you send it again?

Your confirmation email was sent to the email address you provided on your entry form. Please check your junk mail/spam folder. For any queries, please contact us at info@oceanswim.co.nz.

What time does my swim start and from where?

Please refer to the “Event Times” box on the right hand side of this webpage. Or for more information click on the “Timetable” tab above. We also send regular email newsletters, so be sure that you have subscribed to this.

Can I change my estimated swim time?

Yes, you can change this by emailing us at least 10 days before the event.

What do I get in my swim pack?

• A Timing Chip and Strap*

• A swim cap that you must wear for the event

• A numbered gear bag

*Please fasten the timing chip securely to your ankle with the supplied strap. The chip is on loan to you and must be returned after the event. A replacement chip is $50.00

How do I wear the timing chip?

Thread the thin part of the strap through the timing chip and fasten the Velcro strap securely around your ankle. We recommend you put your wetsuit over the chip to keep it secure. If you lose it, you will be liable for a replacement cost of $50. Once you have completed the event your chip is collected at the finish line.

If you have a problem fastening your timing chip just ask one of the event officials on event day, they will be able to assist you.

Are there entry limits for the events?

Yes. For safety reasons, there is a maximum number of competitors allowed at each event. Enter early to avoid disappointment.

Can I enter on the day?

Yes, providing entries haven’t sold out online prior. We recommend you enter online to avoid disappointment.

How can I see the results?

Results will be published on the event website on the evening of each event. All swimmers that took part in a timed event will be able to download a certificate from the results page.

What is a ‘wave start’?

A ‘wave start’ requires smaller groups to start at different times to reduce congestion and will be based on the estimated times.

I still have my timing chip – what do I do?

If you have taken it home by mistake, please post it back to us at the following address:

Quantum Events Ltd PO Box 33-1057 Takapuna Auckland 0740

If it’s cold, can I swim with booties/skull cap/gloves?

It has been approved the use of the following:

• wetsuit booties

• skull caps  (your event swim cap must be worn over the skull cap and must remain visible for the duration of the race)

• wetsuit gloves (must NOT be webbed)

What happens in bad weather?

A decision to run with the contingency plan for the ocean swims will be made in the event of bad weather or circumstances beyond the control of the event management. The Race Director in conjunction with Surf Life Saving New Zealand will make this decision on race morning in the interest of your safety. Updates will be given to you on race morning. For contingency decisions made the day prior – please check our website home page & event page as well as your own email inbox for the latest information.

What happens if I have difficulties in the water?

Simple! Stop! Raise your arm high into the air to identify yourself to a lifeguard. If this is not possible, simply roll on to your back to float in a relaxed position. If you are near an athlete experiencing difficulties, please make sure they are alright, assist if necessary, and alert a lifeguard.

I can no longer make it, can I get a refund?

Refunds are not available, but we can transfer your entry across to another swim in the New Zealand Ocean Swim Series at the cost of $15. Please contact us at info@oceanswim.co.nz to arrange this transfer.

Should you decide not to swim, you are still entitled to collect your event swim pack, please advise crew of your decision so that you are not issued with a timing chip.

I don’t feel ready for my event, could I transfer to another race?

Yes you can. It comes at a cost of $15 to a transfer your entry to a different event or you can choose to transfer to a smaller length swim, in the same event, for no extra charge. Please contact us at info@oceanswim.co.nz to transfer your event registration.
