Think Wellington is just all about political power, great coffee and our nation’s creative arts hub? Add ocean swimming to that list as the Interislander Capital Classic gears up for another epic event on the Harbour.
This hugely popular event is a highlight on our Series calendar with swimmers of all ages, shapes and sizes (come back next year Mike McRoberts!) taking to the harbour for a lap around the fountain, nice long swim or short-n-sweet dip.
Rain, hail, shine (or wind!) Wellington always turns on an unforgettable day and the new Oriental Bay HQ location offers a maximum celebration atmosphere, with a relaxed family-friendly scene once the aquatic action is complete.
Three swim choices means there really is something for every swimmer – from first-timers to the seasoned salties. The 500m swim keeps things simple and fun while the 1km and 3.3km swims take you around the fountain (and out to the Lighthouse for the 3.3km) then back to shore for an Instagram-worthy finish line photo.
Three distances in the Banana Boat OceanKids Series means that young swimmers can have the swim of their life at six of our annual events! The 100m swim is perfect for those starting out or finding their flippers in the ocean aged 7 and 8 years old, and the 200m distance is ideal for 9 and 10 year olds. If your 11 and 12 year old tadpole is looking for a bit more of a challenge have a go at the 300m distance. The Jetstar Super Swim Squad has been an awesome fixture for the past 5 years as part of Jetstar’s sponsorship. Jetstar has chosen to move on this season so unfortunately there won’t be a Squad Camp but we still have loads of great rewards for swimmers in our Banana Boat OceanKids Series, including a finishers photo and video!
