INDIVIDUAL AGE GROUP CATEGORIES

The age category for an individual event is determined by your age on the day of the event/s you chose to swim.

Series Competition Long Swims (2km – 5km)

In the Series Competition eligible long swims (Swim the Bridge 2km and swims of longer distances) there are 15 age groups: 12-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85+. Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed male and females will be awarded medals at each event, as well as the 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and females in each of the age groups. Age eligibility is from 12 years old and over.

Non-wetsuit swimmers in the 2km and above swim distances have the same categories, with the 1st male and female in each age group being awarded with medals at event prize giving.

Eligible Swims for the 2023/24 season are;

  • Beach to Bay 3.3km – 11 November – Russell
  • Rangitoto Swim 4.6km – 26 November – Auckland
  • Swimming NZ Epic Swim 5km – 13 January – Lake Taupō
  • Interislander Swim the Lighthouse 3.3km – 29 January – Wellington
  • Interislander Bean Rock Swim 3.2km –  10 February – Auckland
  • La Grande Swim 5km – 24 February – Christchurch
  • Harcourts Cooper & Co Harbour Crossing 2.6km – 9 March – Auckland Harbour
  • Legend of the Lake 3.5km – 16 March – Rotorua
  • The Mount Swim 2.8km – 30 March – Mount Maunganui (Easter eggs!)

1000m – 2300m MID SWIM DISTANCE

There are eight age group categories in the 1000m – 2000m swim distances: 10-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. Overall 1st, 2nd 3rd placed male and females will be awarded medals at each event, as well as the 1st male and female in each age group. Age eligibility is from 10 years old and over.

Eligible Swims for the 2023/24 season are;

  • Beach to Bay 1000m – 11 November – Russell
  • Rangitoto Swim 2.3km – 26 November – Auckland
  • Swimming NZ Epic Swim 2.5km – 13 January – Lake Taupō
  • Interislander Swim the Lighthouse 1000m – 28 January – Wellington
  • Interislander Bean Rock Swim 1600m –  10 February – Auckland
  • La Grande Swim 2km – 24 February – Christchurch
  • Harcourts Cooper & Co Harbour Crossing 1.3km – 9 March – Auckland Harbour
  • Generation Homes Legend of the Lake 1000m – 16 March – Rotorua
  • Generation Homes The Mount Swim 1.25m – 30 March – Mount Maunganui (Easter eggs!)

500m – 1250m SHORT SWIM DISTANCE

There are no award medals for this swim distance. These distances are about participation and entry into open water swimming Age eligibility is from 8 years old and over. Swimmers in these distances are welcome to attend the prizegiving to celebrate with the other swimmers and be in to win some amazing spot prizes including a blueseventy wetsuit!

AMPHIBIAN EVENTS

There are eight age group categories in the Amphibian events: 10-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed male and females will be awarded medals at each event. Age eligibility is from 10 years old and over at the Generation Homes Sand to Surf and 12 years old and over at the Generation Homes Legend of the Lake, Interislander Bean Rock Swim & Generation Homes Beach to Bay.

BANANA BOAT OCEANKIDS SERIES

There are now two swim distances in the Banana Boat OceanKids for swimmers between 7 -12 years old. 100m & 200m and they can enter either distance. All swimmers who take part in the Banana Boat OceanKids events will receive a finishers medal as they cross the finish line.
