Meet Amy Renall….

Amy is from Hawkes Bay, mum to 3 super awesome boys, has been competing in swim & triathlon events since ages ago AND coaches swimming technique, fitness & nutrition. You can read about Amy, her top tips for new swimmers, and why she will Swimfluence you into the water.
How long have you been swimming? | I have been swimming since I was born! |
Who was your first swim coach? | My mum was my swim coach to begin with and then I moved into competitive swimming in Hawkes Bay and Wellington. |
What swim are you looking forward to most this season & why? | I am really looking forward to the Rangitoto event as I like the idea of a straight line swim...or as much of a straight line as possible! But also the lighthouse event in Wellington will be a fun trip down memory lane as that is where I trained many moons ago. |
What is your favourite pre-race snack? | Pretty much anything with peanut butter!!! |
What song is on your raceday music playlist? | Anything oldschool, but my favourite has to be Sublime |
Why do you swim? | Since having my 3 boys sport has been absolutely crucial in keeping me sane, I love being on top of the water so I race Waka Ama a lot too, but then I love being in the water and the peace and serenity it brings (especially after being at home with 3 noisy boys!!) |
If you had ONE PIECE of advice for a new ocean swimmer - what would it be? | Seek advice, it is incredible how many people I coach who have been battling for years tell me they wish they had sought out some coaching earlier. Swimming isn’t like riding or running, it is a lot more technical and there are small things you can do to make it so much easier. |
